Physical Therapy is an integral part of the treatment of any muscle or joint disorder, including most Temporomandibular Disorders.  Specific to the treatment of TM Disorders, the goal of physical therapy is to:

• Aid in the reduction of inflammation and swelling through ultrasound and other modalities.
• Aid in the reduction of jaw and neck muscle tension and pain through direct stretching and traction of certain muscle groups, and instructing the patient in home exercises which will also stretch and relax these muscles.
• Help in the reduction or elimination of factors which are contributing to the cause or the perpetuation of the disorder, ie. habit reduction, behavior modification, postural correction, EMG Biofeedback, etc.
